Absolutely Brilliant - A Must Read - Must Watch

I have never seen it preformed like this, whoever had the idea of taking the music to the people in a mall like this is brilliant. Imagine sitting, enjoying lunch in the mall on a busy Saturday when someone stands up and breaks out in song...not any song, but the Hallelujah Chorus, then one by one as the choir stands and joins in. they must have really wondered what was going on. Amazing. I found this very touching to watch as the videographers captured the singers and the reaction of the audience. I hope you enjoyed watching it as much as I did. Certainly puts me in the Christmas Spirit

I first heard the music of Handle's Messiah the year we were married, 1967. The Hallelujah Chorus has been my favorite piece since that time, I have seen it preformed in various locations over all of these years. In Uxbridge; every other year we are treated to the Messiah Choir performing the Messiah with the aid of musicians from the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

This year the 100 voice choir of the Uxbridge Messiah Singers along with a professional Orchastra will perform on Dec 20th and the 21st

 Santa Clause Is Coming To Town

Santa Clause will be in Uxbridge, Ontario on Saturday November 27 for the annual Uxbridge Santa Clause Parade. With many small children expecting to see him Santa will be the hit of the day as he rides through downtown Uxbridge.

The parade gets under way at 11:00pm starting at the corner of Center Street and Brock St W. The Santa Clause parade travels through the downtown core, heading across town on Brock St and then turns onto Franklin St where it disperses

Santa Arrives In Toronto Today 

In a little less than one hour Santa will start his journey along the route of the 106th Santa clause Parade.

Traveling east along bloor from The Christie Pits area and and then south down Avenue Road to Dundas, east on Dundas to YongeStreet, then south to Front Street wher it will then go east again to the St lawrence Market Area.

When asked if he plans to be at the parade in Uxbridge later this month (Nov 27th) he let loose with a jolly Ho!! HO! HO! and said of coure he would be there as there are many small children who are expecting him. He commented that Uxbridge always puts on a warm welcome for him and Mrs. Clause when she was able to make it.

A New Addition To The Family

We have been rather busy around our house this last little while ..... we've been busy preparing to add too our family. 

The technicians have been very helpful.

They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks so you can just imagine the learning curve involved. We even took a few training lessons and messed around a bit making a few changes just to see how things worked.

There will likely be several more changes before we are done but we hope the end result will be both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

With no direct Government funding Matthew House relies on the support of individuals with heart. Our fundraisers are used to cover the everyday expenses in our ongoing support of refugees.

Matthew House is a small shelter for refugees in down town Toronto that welcomes refugees who arrive with nothing but the shirt on their backs and no where to turn. You may have heard me talking about it, sharing some of the amazing stories.  Our core value is to offer ‘a place of hope at the end of the Refugee Highway', by offering shelter and food, help completing confusing refugee application papers, medical and counseling referrals, orientation to life in Canada, assistance in finding apartments, offering monthly drop-ins, and summer camp.  

 Resale Housing Sales On The Rise Nationally

Sales activity on the national scene here in Canada has increased for the third month in a row. acording to statistics released by The Canadian Real Estate Association. This echos the Toronto Real Estate Board Statistics - October 2010 that showed us getting back on track to a more normalized Market with average selling prices, monthly sales and sales to listings ratios all headed up.

" Three-quarters of local markets posted monthly increases in seasonally adjusted activity in October, led by Toronto and Vancouver." creanews.ca 

This is another sign that our markets are returning to somthing closer to normal activity after last falls and early springs abnormal surge in home sales. Many believe that low interest rates are one of the keys to the improving sales numbers

"The continuation of low interest rates is supporting sales activity, which has been improving over the past few months in a number of major markets including Vancouver," said Georges Pahud, CREA's President

Into Every Life A Ray Of Sunshine Must Shine.

We have six wonderful Grandchildren, our adopted one is a ray of sunshine in our lives.

In Ontario there are over 9,000 children and youth who are wards of the province. Only a fraction of these children will find the legal and emotional support of a permanent family in spite of the fact that more than 2,500 families have been fully qualified to adopt.

"This year the Adoption Council of Ontario is committed to raising awareness about the need of all children to have a legally committed 'forever family'.  Specifically, we want to ensure that EVERY child in permanent foster care has an action plan that will give them a family to grow up in. We want  both Children's Aid Societies and adoptive families to have resources and supports from the government so they can do the complex work of creating life long families through adoption." source the Adoption Council of Ontario.

Be A Ray Of Sunshine In A Childs Life

Help the Council by urging the Ontario Government to speed up changes in the public adoption system so that more children can find a stable loving family. No one should live with the possibility of coming home from school to find the social worker there to say you are moving once again to another foster home.

It's That Time Of Year Again!!

Do you use a medical device that incorporates a timer?

Time to reset your clocks - On November the 7th at 2am your clock should be set back 1 hour

Many will change their clocks before going to bed this evening but some will forget and arrive at church early tomorrow. 

More Than Clocks and Batteries Need To Be Changed

We all know it's wise to change the batteries in our smoke detectors when we change the clocks but there are many other battery operated devices that we should also think about. 

Do you use a medical device that incorporates a timer?

Health Canada issued a statement back in March to remind the thousands of Canadians who rely on medical devices or systems with internal clocks to check these devices to ensure they have switched times correctly

The start and end dates of Daylight Saving Time were changed in 2007. Medical equipment manufactured prior to 2007 may not function optimally if the equipment has not been updated by manufacturers to compensate for the new dates.

While Health Canada has not received any reports of device malfunctions they issued the statement as a cautionary warning.  Medical devices that could be affected by the change include (but are not limited to): implanted pacemakers/defibrillators with sleep modes that can only be adjusted by physicians; Holter monitors, used to continuously record heartbeat; and glucose monitors that store data on glucose levels.

After a couple of weak attempts to snow earlier in the week yesterday it snowed most of the day but with temperatures hovering right around freezing it was still to warm to stick. Over night the temperature dropped enough to allow it to stick, even on the 'warm' ground.

Waking up to snow on the ground this morning my thoughts drifted to Christmas and the The Christmas Home Tour.

Created to provide assistance and awareness to groups or individuals within our community the Uxbridge Christmas Home Tour is just one week away. New this year, in addition to the tour you can enjoy "Christmas by Design" at Wooden Sticks with Kimberley Seldon, broadcast personality, interior designer, author, journalist, and keynote speaker.

Visit six local homes all decorated and ready for Christmas with the help of volunteers, home owners, decorators & florists.

This year the recipient of the monies raised is Precious Minds a local organization that provides support to families of children with learning barriers. Since the tours inception in 2004 over $100,000 has been raised for local charities.

What Are Detached Homes Selling For In Uxbridge

Average Prices Continue To Rise - Total Sales For The Year Up Slightly

Greater Toronto Realtors® reported 6,681 sales through the MLS® system in October 2010. This is down twenty one percent from the booming market of last October.

Despite this the year to date sales are still up one percent and average prices continue to rise with a year over year increase of five percent.

Looking at the mid month sales data below we see an increase in the number of sales in the last half of the month over the first half across the overall GTA. There was a 16% increase in sales activity in the City of Toronto and a 26% increase in the 905 region.

In an earlier post that looked at What Potential Buyers Are Looking At? you can see the trend to higher priced homes from earlier in the year. Coupled with the continued rise in average sales this could indicate a shift in the potential buyer demographics.

The GTA  Market is currently in a state of flux with mixed indicators showing up.

While year over year sales for the year are up the number of sales to date in the month are down.  The average sale price for October Mid Month transactions is also up from the first 14 days of October in 2009.

What Are Potential Buyers Looking At?

Just before The Toronto Real Estate Board puts out the monthly sold statistics for the GTA here is a look at the median and average list price of homes viewed on my listings web site.

While the sampling is small (hundreds) compared to the amount (thousands) of data that TREB analyzes it does provide an idea of what people are looking at in and around Uxbridge. This data contains all listings viewed including a few rentals and some very high end properties for the area.
